I've got wind
Can I say again how cool Zaadz is? Because of the support they give us coders down in the belly of this ship I'm able to do lots of things with my modest monthly budget that I never though I would do. This weekend I took a challenge from Whole Foods Market and signed up for the electricity I use each month to be made from wind power.
Now, electricity is all mixed into the grid so no one can buy power directly from a wind farm, but by purchasing renewable energy credits through a program like Whole Foods, you're paying the premium for wind power to be competative on the power market. That means I'm making it possible for my power to have been from wind and that the demand for wind is that much higher. Whole Foods has purchased enough of these credits so that effectively ALL the power used by their stores is from wind. Likewise many other companies I support, such as White Wave, makers of Silk soymilk.
I looked at a few electric bills and figured what my average usage is and then signed up. For me that's just $15/mo. I can't put solar panels on my condo but this is just about as good :-)
